United Insurance Brokers Ltd. (UIB) was originally formed in the 1960s as Marsh and McLennan Middle East Ltd. It became a separate entity through a management buyout in 1987, and most members of the original UIB team are still in place. UIB is one of only 120 Lloyd’s brokers, and is ranked among the top 10 independent privately owned and managed insurance brokers in the London market. It has access to more than 450 carriers on a global basis.

UIB is a market leader in oil and gas risks, crude oil movement, petrochemicals, LNG, power and aviation. Its original core expertise was in construction, energy and marine, but the company has expanded to include teams of specialists covering aviation, non-marine property, trade credit, political risks, and risk management.

It is recognized as a leading broker in the London and international insurance markets. It is well connected to the Arab-speaking world and has also built strong relationships in the Japanese market.

In 1987, UIB also formed its own risk management company, Associated Risk Management Ltd. (ARM). It is headed by a chemical engineer who works with a panel of other professional engineers to address special areas of risk.

In addition to its London base, the firm has offices around the world, including Algeria (Algiers), Japan (Tokyo), Singapore, Malaysia (Labaun), South Korea (Seoul), Spain (Madrid and Barcelona), Switzerland (Geneva) and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Bahrain). The firm also serves the regions surrounding its offices in the Middle East/Arab World, Asia and Southeast Asia, India, Europe and the former Soviet Union countries.

Simon J. Newton, Director of UIB Intl. Ltd. and Divisional Director of UIB Ltd., joined the firm in 1998 and is responsible for developing its international network. He also handles the day-to-day management of the marine division. His experience ranges from creating multi-national programs to handling marine claims and placements.
