Insurance Glossary

Insurance language and abbreviations can be confusing even for those in the business. Abbreviations abound, many of them standing for more than one term. And the same terms can mean different things in US and UK usage. It’s difficult enough for native English speakers; the rest of the world occasionally needs a little help.

This glossary aims to explain frequently used or confused terms. It does not try to provide a legally sound definition of these terms – vast amounts of literature are available for that.
